PROJECT HIGHLIGHTS
Jonathan Westcott, P.E., is a Civil Engineer with FEMA’s Building Science Branch. The Building Science Branch is organized under Resilience in the Planning, Safety, & Building Science Division (PBD), Risk Analysis, Planning, and Information Directorate (RAPID). Its mission is to lead the advancement of state-of-the-art design and construction to create safer communities.
Westcott has been with FEMA since 2006. He is responsible for development of technical policy, standards, and guidance on building science and building code issues and led FEMA’s Building Codes Save study. Westcott currently leads the implementation of the agency’s Building Code Strategy to advance the adoption and enforcement of hazard-resistant building codes and standards for FEMA programs.
Westcott has participated on numerous Mitigation Assessment Teams, leading the teams in the U.S. Virgin Islands, following the 2017 Hurricanes, and in the Commonwealth of the Northern Marianas Islands, following Super Typhoon Yutu.
Westcott earned his B.S. in Civil Engineering from Lehigh University with a Coastal Engineering specialty and a Coastal Engineering Certificate from Old Dominion University. He is a registered professional engineer in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
Established by the United States Congress, NIBS’ mission is to serve the public interest by advancing building science and technology to improve the built environment.
